To pacify provinces, have hostages executed. Even if you don't have any hostages, just attempting the execution has a calming effect. Revolutionary provinces cannot be pacified this way - in that case, only the hearth tax works.

MONEY EXPLOIT:
Around 1430, after having some enemies killed, have the CARDINAL OF WINCHESTER kidnapped for 20,000 pounds. Then choose DIPLOMACY and offer HENRY OF ENGLAND the Cardinal's release for 500,000 pounds. Send envoys DE LA TREMOILLE and REGNAULT DE CHARTRES. This can be repeated multiple times and you can demand even more money.
